How Do You Protest Your Taxes in Austin?

Hey everybody, today I want to talk about tax appraisals. Travis County's home assessments are out already, and Hays and Williamson Counties will soon follow. Property values in the area have gone up, but we are currently experiencing a disparity of homes in certain parts of town. Some of this may be due to undervalued or overvalued properties. Could your home be one of them?

"There is a difference between tax appraisal and the assessed value."

If you don't know if your home is under or overvalued, we want you to give us a call if you feel the county's assessment of your home is inaccurate. It is getting easier to protest your taxes online, and even if you just get your value adjusted by a tiny bit, it's worth it to protest. There is a much better chance that your tax rate will be adjusted than in the past.

Now, there is a difference between tax appraisal and the assessed value. The appraisal is what they think it's worth, and the assessed value might be lower than that, but it depends on what's happening in your area. If your value has gone up more than 10%, you'll have to pay a cap. It's a very interesting market right now in Austin, with values continuing to go up, and we are seeing multiple offers on nearly every home we list under $400,000. If you have any questions for us or are interested in buying or selling in Austin, give us a call or send us an email. We look forward to hearing from you!
